In association with Peter Wirth he formed Simmen Wirth & Partners Inc., a company that is now one of the leading public relations consultancies in Switzerland.
His activities include personal consulting to managers at Swiss and international corporations, the development and implementation of PR campaigns, and planning and organizational services during the launch of international corporations in Switzerland and elsewhere in Europe.
He has also been responsible for coordinating pan-European communications campaigns for the European Community, served as a member of a consultancy group at a major American corporation, and was part of the international crisis management team formed after the biggest industrial catastrophe in business history (Bhopal, India, 1984).
He continued his career as a communications consultant for the insurance company Winterthur-Leben and as editor-in-chief at Der Monat in Wirtschaft und Finanz, the customer journal of the Swiss Bank Corporation.
Besides his consulting work for Simmen Wirth & Partners, Peter Wirth was editor-in-chief of Schweizer Personalvorsorge, the magazine published by Swiss pernsions organization VPS, between 1989 and 1996. He has been general manager of the Vorsorgeforum [Pensions Forum], since its formation.
His consultancy clients in the area of communications have included a number of investment and finance corporations, the art show "Art", and the Swiss Fiduciary Chamber.
Today, his main focus is in the areas of pensions, insurance, and finance.
